Talk about twisted racial politics: South Africans who are of Chinese ancestry are now considered “black” in order to participate in the nation’s affirmative action laws. It’s a little more complicate than that. Your Chinese ancestors had to have immigrated during a certain period of South Africa’s history in order to be black, so if they showed up just a few years ago, they’re “white.”
Oh boy! And we thought it was bad in the USA. Just goes to show that whenever you create one set of laws for one group of people and another set of laws for another group, it leads to nothing but confusion and trouble down the line.
